Long before Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ topped singles charts on both sides of the Atlantic, it actually started as an Ed Sheeran original.
The acoustic ballad is one of the many songs that Ed has written for other artists, but he’s taken ‘Love Yourself’ back for himself in an exclusive first-ever live performance for KISS FM.
Since the song is a tongue-in-cheek telling-off of an ex-lover, it of course makes us wonder which one of Ed’s former loves originally inspired it. Maybe Ellie Goulding… or one of Taylor Swift’s squad of celebs?
For comparison’s sake, here is Justin Bieber’s version of ‘Love Yourself’, which earned two Grammy nominations and has gone six-times platinum in the US alone:
Ed is so prolific that scoring hit single after hit single on his own just isn’t enough for him. He’s got a pretty profitable side business cranking out catchy tunes for some of music’s biggest stars.
Rudimental’s ‘Lay It All On Me’, Jessie Ware’s ‘Say You Love Me’, One Direction’s ‘Little Things’, Tori Kelly’s ‘I Was Made for Loving You’ – these are just a few of the pop belters that Ed has either written or co-written for others.
These days he’s busy smashing chart and Spotify records on his own, and reportedly gearing up as the final headliner for this year’s Glastonbury Festival alongside Radiohead and Foo Fighters.
We’re expecting you to still make time for your friends, Ed. In some cases, their careers depend on it…
Now if we know that facts, let’s vote about, who is the better artist!
